Day 5
Oops! Mistake been made in day 3 report. The first flag found was ‘Pride of the South'. Found by ‘The Symbol'. I had written it the wrong way round - must have had my eyes crossed!
Day 5 started smoothly. Morning session was mainly pull. Kids arrived back extra hungry as weather a little colder. For the first time on camp, French toast was made and was such a big hit with the kids. Record goes to Thom with 8 pieces.
After breakfast, Egg ‘Miss Togepi' was dropped by Leanne causing a major brain injury and was leaking everywhere. Decision was made to replace her with a healthy Egg called ‘Miss Togetic'. Let's hope she can last a bit longer. Coach no longer allowed to touch any eggs.
Then off to school grounds for a game of touch and the winner was ‘Pride of the South'.
After lunch the kids got a rest before heading to the pool again for a speed session.
That night we played Trivia Pursuit. The teams came dressed as a theme. Mole came as Moles dressed in black clothing with red noses and whiskers. Kockidily came with blankets as a slumber party. Pride of the South made great use of sheets, tea towels and sunglasses to come as Arabs,
and The Symbol came as Greeks, also using sheets with a leaf in their hair. Obviously some personal grooming was done, as the girls looked very polished in their outfits.
The Team Managers voted the Moles and the Greeks first, Arabs second and Blankets third.
Julian started the Trivia Pursuit with some hard swimming questions, followed by Leanne's general knowledge about the camp. As usual with her general knowledge some answers were debated. In the end the winner was Mole, The Symbol second, Pride of the South third, and Krockidily fourth.
Swimmers of the day include: Charlotte, Abbie, Alex Y (twice), Alex L, Arran, Stu & Wallace.
Day 6
A few tired faces greeted us at breakfast today. Back to the pool for a morning of distance freestyle.
After 2nd breakfast we were lucky to have Dawn Chalmers, Physiotherapist, from Active Body Centre come to Garin College Hostel to
show us ‘Theraband' exercises. She bought with her Claire Dallison, a NZ renowned strength & conditioning coach who works with the Tall Blacks. Together they showed us how the muscles work in your shoulders (Arran made a fantastic model) and what exercises to do to strengthen the muscles in the shoulder. It was a very informative session and the kids also learnt how to strengthen their shoulder - in particular the rotator cuff in order to reduce injury.
Then our dining room was turned into a massage parlour with Anne & Gina rubbing some sore bodies.
The sun came out for the afternoon session for some fast 100 pace work.
We have our first Egg death. RIP Miss FiFi. Finally was allowed out of its well cocooned box to be dropped by Daddy Captain Cameron James. So 2000 points deducted from Krockidily.
Current points stand at:
Mole 3200
Krokidily 125
Pride of the South 4350
The Symbol 4175
Kids really enjoyed hamburgers for tea followed by an educational night watching swimming videos that Julian had downloaded from U Tube.
Swimmers of the day include: Jed, Sophia, GV & Wallis.
