AquaGym Swim Camp 2012 - Days 3 and 4

E-mail Print PDF

Day 3

Kids got to have an extra 15 minutes sleep in this morning, with a wakeup call at 6.45am.  Off to the pool for an extra-long training session.ball_photo

Back home for yummy ‘Watties' Bake Beans on toast.  Hopefully the kid's tummies will cope with that!  Then off to Daelyn orchards for some fruit picking.  The kids were put into their teams and given 2 punnets each to fill with boysenberries & raspberries.  They returned with full punnets, not to mention full tummies.  Might need some extra toilet paper!

Then straight into a boxing session. After lunch the kids got a well-earned rest before heading to the pool again at 3.20pm.

Dinner tonight was spag bol followed by our yummy fresh picked Berries and icecream.

The teams were then given a Nursery Rhyme each which they have to act out in a play or skit on the last night of camp. One egg has a head injury.  A water bottle landed on poor ‘Wilsons' head.  But after a few butterfly stitches he is still in the game.

The first flag (The Symbol) was found by ‘Pride of the South'.

Swimmer of the day awards went to:  Alex Y, Alex L, Abbie, Phillip (twice), Sophia, Kopi, Wallis, Erica, Morgan, Grace, Kelly, Stu & GV.

Day 4

Up at an earlier time of 6.15am and off to the pool for an hour training session before heading to the Nelson Yacht Club for the ‘eyebright mile' 2km sea swim race from the yacht club to the beach.  The sun was shining bright and the kids were rearing to go.  Henry & Chris lead from the start, and battled it out all the way with the race coming down to a run up the beach. The win went to the boy who wanted it most - Chris Mc Fadden used those long legs and strode to the finish line to take it out for those with no wetsuits. Alex Laidlaw was our first girl for AquaGym and for the whole field. The category winners went to Sam Stuart - 20  -29 years, Alex Laidlaw - Overall Winner, Henry and Kopi 2nd and 3rd - boys 16 and under, Kelly and Abbie - 2nd and 3rd Girls 16 and under and Sam Holland 3rd in 16-19 years. Everyone really excelled and although it was tough, cold and long - the kids were left with the reward of a great achievement. The sun shining on their backs at the end was an added bonus. There were a few Hypothermic little ones at the end but with some great nursing from the team managers all were good to go by the next session.

Headed back home for some partner stretching which really sparked some energy. girls_camp

Yummy wraps for lunch and off for a rest. Headed back to the pool for some efficiency, recovery and drills and a run to dinner.

Played a game of "I share common ground" and Musical chairs. Both quite robust and aggressive chair chasing games. Highlights of the two games include some chair diving and missing from, Ruth, MC, some head on between Rach and Arran, Sophia and Cameron and Thom and Ruth. Musical chairs were won proudly by Arran, who played a very tactical game to win 500 points for his team - Pride of the South. The chair fight between Sophia, Pia and Thom was most passionate and took a good rumble, tumble and muscle to see Thom get his butt on the chair first to win the rights to play on.

All in all an actioned pack day for day 4!

Miss Speight's Playmate now has internal bleeding with fluid loss.  And Togepi has a head injury and is strapped up.  So the only lucky egg without any medical problems is FiFi -  Maybe because GV has taken on a very protective mother roll and the egg is stuck in a plastic container wrapped in tissue.  If us parents could only do that with our kids!

Swimmers of the day include;

Ocean Swim - Morgan, Arran and Blake.

For swim sessions - Arran, Stu and Cam Jeffery.
